Studies of the multipole transmitter for logging-while-drilling (LWD) acoustic tools

This article contents results of multipole acoustic fields in boreholes which were obtained with computer modeling (finite-element method). Multipole transmitters are a sign of the modern logging-while-drilling (LWD) technologies and acoustic tools with wavefields excitation and registration for slow and fast formations as well as a real-time porosity and permeability measuring. Nowadays the quadrupole transmitters are demanded. This subject is relevant for Russian geophysics tools manufacturing due to the necessity of the own logging-while-drilling technology development.The effective acoustic transmitter consisting of segmented piezoelectric rings was considered. The computer modeling allowed to get the optimum transmitter embodiment which was verified experimentally. The study results may be used in the LWD acoustic tools development.......

About the resolution enhancement three-element acoustic logging tools

Mathematical modeling of subsurface local inhomogeneties influence on magnetotellurics results

In previous papers we described approximate approach for determination “part of the surrounding geological medium, significantly influenced on measuring results in some electrical and electromagnetic methods”. New approach to solution of problem, based on the approximate theory, was used for approximate solution of 3D forward problem of electrodynamics for the case when small isometric object dV is situated in the upper layer of two-layered conductive model. Electromagnetic field without the object is linearly polarized. Results of mathematical modeling show influence of the object on some parameters calculated in magnetotellurics.......

Choosing sampling rate for seismic data digital recording: discussion continued

A paper published in the previous issue of the journal contains some controversial conclusions that are analyzed in the present study. It is shown that in typical situations, with which we have to deal with in practice, the methods for choosing the sampling rate and continuous signal recovery proposed in the paper mentioned can lead to unacceptably large errors.......
